Sheriff's Corrections Officials Agree with Grand Jury Report: Department Not in Compliance with California Corrections Standards

The Sheriff's Department "has conducted a quick review of the just-released Grand Jury Report regarding the County Detention Health Care Service," the sheriff's Correctional Chief Deputy Jerry Gutierrez said in a statement Friday.

Responding to a recent Grand Jury report, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced Friday its lockup facilities are currently not in compliance with California Corrections minimum standards for adult detention facilities in terms of medical and mental health services.

The Sheriff's Department "has conducted a quick review of the just-released Grand Jury Report regarding the County Detention Health Care Service," the sheriff's Correctional Chief Deputy Jerry Gutierrez said in a statement.

"The Sheriff's Department believes that the Grand Jury Report is an objective assessment and concurs with the general findings in the report," Gutierrez said. "The report corroborates the critical situation that our detention facilities face regarding the insufficient staffing and service levels currently being provided by County Detention Health Services."
