San Jacinto Man Arrested After Firing Pellet Gun at Person, Police Say

The 36-year-old was jailed in Banning on Friday after police say he shot at a person in a parked vehicle.

A San Jacinto man was jailed in Banning Friday on assault with a deadly weapon charges after police allege he shot someone with a pellet gun.

36-year-old Anthony Joseph Gonzales was arrested following the incident in the area of East Main Street and South Alessandro Avenue in San Jacinto, according to sheriff's sergeant Joey Nardone.

"The investigation revealed the suspect drove by the victim, who was sitting in a parked vehicle and fired several rounds from a pellet gun, striking the victim in the upper torso," Nardone said.

Gonzales was taken to the Larry D. Smith correctional facility, and booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm, according to jail records.

An update on the victim's condition wasn't immediately available, but reports indicated that the person was not severely injured.

Gonzales was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail, according to online inmate booking records.
