San Jacinto Fire Destroys Commercial Buildings

A fire that ripped through two San Jacinto commercial buildings was under investigation Thursday.

Firefighters were trying Thursday to determine the cause of an overnight fire that destroyed two commercial structures in San Jacinto.

The fire broke out in the 1100 block of North State Street, near Esplanade Avenue, just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to Melody Hendrickson of the Riverside County Fire Department.

"The first arriving engine company found heavy fire coming from two structures," Hendrickson said, adding that one struture-- at 1,500 square feet-- was fully involved, while another 3,000 square foot building was 50 percent involved when crews got to the scene.

Seven engines and 27 firefighters ultimately responded, and worked late into the night to stop the flames from spreading.

"Firefighters took a defensive attack protecting adjacent exposures and power lines," Hendrickson added.
