Runaway Teen Arrested on Burglary, Theft Charges in Yucaipa

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department says the juvenile broke into a Yucaipa home while the resident was sleeping, and stole items including a car.

A 17-year-old burglary suspect was behind bars Thursday night, suspected of breaking into someone's home in Yucaipa and burglarizing the residence— taking off in their vehicle, San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies reported.

According to a press release from the agency, deputies spotted the teen at 7th Street Park Thursday morning, and questioned him.

"The juvenile was reported as a runaway the night before and was found to be in possession of a stolen vehicle," the release states.

When they contacted the registered owner of that vehicle, deputies found out the owner had been burglarized overnight.

"Through investigation, deputies learned the juvenile entered the residence while the victim was sleeping and stole items including a vehicle that was parked in the driveway," the sheriff's department said.

The boy was taken to Juvenile Hall in San Bernardino, and booked on charges of burglary, vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.
