Routine Traffic Stop in Beaumont Leads to Scuffle, Arrest

A man was being held at the Banning jail Thursday, on charges of resisting arrest after he was pulled over by Beaumont Police.

It all started around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, when Michael John Reilly was pulled over by Beaumont officers in the area of Xenia and 8th Street, according to jail logs.

Beaumont Police Chief Frank Coe tells Patch that officers spotted a vehicle code violation, and initiated a routine traffic stop.

However, the 59-year-old Reilly was uncooperative with the first officer who approached him "...leading to a scuffle," Coe said, adding that he received a minor injury.

Other officers soon arrived for backup, and helped arrest Reilly.

"He was checked at the hospital and booked into the jail for resisting/ interfering with a peace officer," Coe said.

Jail records indicate the man was being held in lieu of $2,500 bail.
