Rock Climbers Hospitalized After Idyllwild Rescue

The pair were rescued from a rock ledge, according to fire officials.

A man and woman were hospitalized Saturday when they were injured in a rock slide in the Humber Park area near Idyllwild.

The two were discovered when someone heard them calling for help after hearing the rock slide at around 1:45 p.m., according to Riverside County Fire Department Spokeswoman Cheri Patterson.

Patterson says the fire department immediately sent out two rescue helicopters, along with three fire engines.  The Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit was also called upon to help the climbers.

"Rock climbers in the area assisted the injured parties, which were trapped on a ledge, to safe location where the helicopter could safely extract them," Patterson said.

The woman's injuries were described as minor, but the man's were said to be moderate, so he was taken to the hospital via a helicopter, Patterson said.
