Robbery in Bank Parking Lot, Arrested Man Accused of Assaulting Woman

A man allegedly robbed a woman in a bank parking lot Tuesday morning in Hemet, and the suspect is accused of "violently pulling her hair" to get her to let go of her bag, a Hemet police lieutenant said in a statement.

The suspect then ran to an apartment complex on West Devonshire where he was eventually arrested, Hemet police Lt. Eric Dickson said.

The incident was unrelated to a standoff later Tuesday on West Kimball, Dickson said Tuesday night in a phone interview.

The alleged robbery was reported at 9:50 a.m. Jan. 21 in the parking lot of a bank in the 2400 block of West Florida Avenue, Dickson said.

Witnesses told responding police "a suspect approached the victim in the parking lot of the bank, pushed her to the ground, and began violently pulling her hair until she released the bag she was clutching," Dickson said in a statement.

The victim was not seriously injured during the assault, according to Dickson.

The suspect ran and a witness chased him north on Kirby, and lost sight of him near the entrance of an apartment complex in the 2700 block of West Devonshire, Dickson said.

"As Hemet Police Officers began searching the apartment complex, one of the residents advised the officers that they had seen the suspect run into one of the apartments near the north east corner of the complex," Dickson said.

Officers converged on the apartment and detained four people inside, including David Jackson, 33, of Hemet, who "was positively identified as the suspect and was arrested on suspicion of robbery," Dickson said.

Dickson said Jackson was being held on $25,000 bail. Jackson's name did not appear in county inmate records Tuesday night.
