Popular Sandwich Shop Burglarized

The Sandwich Stoppe was hit in off hours over the weekend.

A popular sandwich and burger shop in Beaumont was burglarized over the weekend.

The Sandwich Stoppe's alarm system notified police that the store had been broken into at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, according to the Beaumont Police Department.

The suspects got away with the Stoppe's cash register and one CD that police said contained photographs.

Managers for the Stoppe posted a lengthy message about the burglary on their Facebook page.

"We had completely forgotten to take the cash out of the register and of course said register was taken and an entire day's worth of time, sweat and energy was taken by someone who for some reason or other must have needed it more than we did," the Facebook post read.

"To the person who stole from us, if you ever need money or food so badly that you have to steal it from someone, next time instead of breaking into my restaurant, destroying my property and stealing our hard earned money, try this: walk in through the front door and simply ask me for either money or food. I won’t turn you away. I haven’t yet."

According to the Facebook message, the burglar also destroyed a large wine glass used as a tip jar.

Police say that they found the front door unsecured upon arrival to the scene. The tried to dust for fingerprints but at this time there are no leads on suspects.

The stop has been a community favorite since opening its doors in 1999. It's currently the leading vote earner in two separate categories of Patch's .

Sounds like someone knew the money was in there.
ATC August 13, 2012 at 09:47 PM
Agreed. Broad daylight, middle of the day, cash register "full of money"...What business "completely forgets" to take cash out of the register at the end of the business day? How did they make the deposit for the day's business? Something fishy.
Washy August 13, 2012 at 10:09 PM
sounds like the owners are going to file a false insurance claim. I know they have NEVER left money in the register at night. NEVER EVER....
Washy August 13, 2012 at 10:10 PM
Let me clarify they (the owners) come in EVERY day at closing and take all the money home they always have done this....shame
carrie August 13, 2012 at 10:18 PM
I wish people would really think before they spoke...Did it ever occur to you that sometimes things like this happen?Did anyone ever think that maybe other things in life are going on and things slip through the cracks? Break ins happen all the time...I happen to have a special place in my heart for the owners&they didn't deserve this. Did the idiots who did this ever stop to think about the families they stole money from? Oh and Gary, whoever you are, for you to say that there's something "fishy"going on is ignorant. Assuming only makes you look like an idiot.I love my brother and he's worked hard for this so to sit here and listen to people be so rude and inconsiderate makes me angry. No one ever stops to think of what other things people have either been going through or had going on. They only make assumptions. I hope the idiots who did this get what they deserve and when they sleep at night the guilt they feel eats at them!!!!
ATC August 13, 2012 at 11:04 PM
Carrie, I'm simply stating what things "look" like, that's all. I agree; break-ins occur all the time...but how often have they occurred at this business? It seems quite a coincidence that a break-in occurs on the very day that the register is sitting full of money. Since the shop is closed on Sundays, why would a burglar break in, in broad daylight no less, unless they knew that the money had been left there from the previous day, something that is not normally the case?
Mariana Zuelsdorf August 13, 2012 at 11:39 PM
I'm so sorry for the owners.
Mary Denmon August 14, 2012 at 12:37 AM
I totally agree with Carrie. If you don't know what you're talking about don't say anything. These are good people who have lives to live. Sometimes things get left undone. Don't blame the victims for their misfortune. Instead of making judgments maybe you should do something to help.
Anna V August 14, 2012 at 01:33 AM
I agree with Carrie... HEY GARY- I'm simply stating what things "look" like ...and it looks to me like your an IDIOT! That's all.

It might appear to some that maybe "washy" is incriminating himself. Seeing as how he has been watching the owners "EVERY" day. The only odd coincidence one might see is that "washy" saw that the owners didnt take $ home on that particular day. Maybe just too much temptation for "washy" and also why the name "washy" unless you feel unclean.

It's too bad we live in a society that has learned to assume the worse. Gary, try this on, based on your post and prevailing attitude I'd assume you watch too much TV, read too many news blogs that practice shady journalistic tactics and have been cultivated by the alarmist media to jump to conclusions that are typically wrong and completely unfounded but sound good in your head and would make an average tv movie. You're probably late middle aged, white, slightly over-weight and lean to the left in political association. Am I close? Who cares. Because, assumptions made with a lack of supporting evidence is ludacris. Theres just as much evidence that aliens teleported into the store wearing cloaking devices, vandalized the place, took the register, and left laughing while enjoying one of the Stoppes delicious girl scout cookie shakes. You might have contributed positively to society and/or this news article buy being encouraging, motivating, or uplifting in an infortunate situation, yet the only proof any of us have in this matter is 1) the store got robbed, and 2) you suck. Congratulations, you lose.

Gary, untill you attend a police academy spend and invest time in a community get to know owners and spend money in the said community, i feel u should keep ur opinon to your self jus stating.
Dave August 14, 2012 at 02:15 AM
I love how there is always somebody that tries to stir the pot... Get a life. These are real people that just got their hard earned money stolen (By a free loader who wanted something for nothing) and their place trashed. Also, anybody who has ever made an insurance claim knows you never get back everything you lost. Why don't you drop by and have a sandwich one day Gary... You will see that these are not that type of folks. The Stoppe will Roll on!!
Patricia August 14, 2012 at 02:24 AM
Seems to me that everyone seems to have perfect lives if one is able to think there is something "fishy". Plenty of times I've locked my keys in the car, left front door unlocked. Even locked my son in my car (many years ago) along with the keys. Of course NOT once did I do this on purpose. Stuff happens, attention gets taken elsewhere. We are humans for Gods sake. I've witnessed this establishment feed hungry people without even blinking an eye. Sometimes, it's been the same homeless gentleman. Victims are victims. Not to be shameful con artists like the shameful thieves that broke into their business.
Mariana Zuelsdorf August 14, 2012 at 03:19 AM
There was another Banning restaurant robbed, with the cash register taken, a couple of years ago. It happened over a week-end, and unfortunately the security camera had been left off. It is very hard on the owners when something like that happens, but it does happen. I can't believe that anyone would assume that it was an insurance scam. What has happened to society that causes that type of thinking? Robbery is a personal invasion, whether it's one's home or business.

You guys are pretty lame with your comments, and this shop is great. If you haven't eaten there try it first. The owner is a very honest guy.
Mariana Zuelsdorf August 14, 2012 at 06:21 AM
Good heavens, after that week, I'm surprised they remembered to even lock the door! Thank you for the additional info. God bless them; at least they are OK!
ATC August 14, 2012 at 02:10 PM
Wow, you people are all just as big of idiots as you accuse me of being. I NEVER accused the owners of being in on this, nor did I EVER accuse them of insurance fraud. So who is accusing who, now? My point was that anyone with half a brain should be looking at people who know the owners, or possibly even work there (or know someone who works there) and would have info about the money being left there, which is not normally the case. And I guarantee that the police, if they are not idiots, are looking into that possiblility. That's their job, to investigate likely suspects. Yes, robberies happen, accidents happen, mistakes happen...no argument. But in this day and age, to simply assume that since the owners are such good people, then everyone that they know, employ, or otherwise come in contact with are also good people is stupid. I feel very sorry for the owners of this business. Some lowlifes committed a crime against them. And to make matters worse, the owners MAY have actually known the lowlifes responsible for it. Hopefully, they will be caught and convicted, whoever they are. Charles, I HAVE invested time and money in this community; I've lived here since 1969...You? Wesley; get a life. You know nothing about me, obviously. The FACT is that the break-in occurred on the ONE day that money was left in the register. That bears a closer look. You must go through life with blinders on, singing Kumbayah! You've already lost, you just don't know it.
Aim August 14, 2012 at 02:11 PM
Rather than wasting time making assumptions on either side, show some compassion and kindness. Quit flinging crap at each other and go eat a burger to show your support!
ATC August 14, 2012 at 03:59 PM
Anna, I will ask again: "Since the shop is closed on Sundays, why would a burglar break in, in broad daylight no less, unless they knew that the money had been left there from the previous day, something that is not normally the case?" You can ignore those FACTS all you want, it doesn't make them go away, no matter how much of an idiot you insist on being. And based on those FACTS, a likely suspect could easily be someone who is connected in some way; an employee, a friend...Anyone with half a brain would take that into consideration. Perhaps that doesn't include you.
JC August 14, 2012 at 05:21 PM
I live in Beaumont, and I've never eaten there. I just checked out their menu on their website, and it sure looks like I and my family have been missing out on some great food! We like to support local businesses, so we will be eating there as soon as we can, and will be leaving a big tip to help them make up for their loss.
Christy Hart August 14, 2012 at 06:47 PM
I don't care about all the assumptions all i care about is find out who did it and why punish them as they deserve and let life move on . That's the best sandwich shop around. The owners are wonderful and the people who work there are just as great. How about we come together as a community see what we can do to help them and try to find out what really happened instead of pointing fingers and jumping to conclusions:)
carrie August 14, 2012 at 10:48 PM
Gary- I wrote my comment immediately after I read yours and a few others. Of course I was angry and I flew off the handle without really thinking that you are entitled to your opinion as well and I'm sure you meant no offense.I think the fact that the break in effected my family is what stirred the emotions and unkind words.I apologize for that. I guess the bottomline of any and all of the comments made is that we should all want the lowlifes who did this to get what they deserve. And that we should support our local businesses.Bad things happen to good people and hopefully everything will be cleared up...
ATC August 14, 2012 at 10:54 PM
No apology needed, I know that emotions tend to run away with us all at times. Again, I never meant to cast aspersions on the business owners. I simply pointed out the "coincidence" of the timing of the burglary, that's all, which suggests that someone possibly knew that it would be worth their while to break in. I would hope that the police are looking at that as well.
Art August 15, 2012 at 06:19 PM
I dont think the owners had anything to do with this. I use to eat there often, And they are good honest people. I lock up my car everynight, But one night i forgot and someone got in and stole my phone charger. It only took one time. Sounds strange, But thats how it happens. I hope the police catch the person responsible.
