Popular Sandwich Shop Burglarized

The Sandwich Stoppe was hit in off hours over the weekend.

A popular sandwich and burger shop in Beaumont was burglarized over the weekend.

The Sandwich Stoppe's alarm system notified police that the store had been broken into at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, according to the Beaumont Police Department.

The suspects got away with the Stoppe's cash register and one CD that police said contained photographs.

Managers for the Stoppe posted a lengthy message about the burglary on their Facebook page.

"We had completely forgotten to take the cash out of the register and of course said register was taken and an entire day's worth of time, sweat and energy was taken by someone who for some reason or other must have needed it more than we did," the Facebook post read.

"To the person who stole from us, if you ever need money or food so badly that you have to steal it from someone, next time instead of breaking into my restaurant, destroying my property and stealing our hard earned money, try this: walk in through the front door and simply ask me for either money or food. I won’t turn you away. I haven’t yet."

According to the Facebook message, the burglar also destroyed a large wine glass used as a tip jar.

Police say that they found the front door unsecured upon arrival to the scene. The tried to dust for fingerprints but at this time there are no leads on suspects.

The stop has been a community favorite since opening its doors in 1999. It's currently the leading vote earner in two separate categories of Patch's .
