Police Wednesday sought the driver of a gray Dodge Durango SUV who left the spot where he and another vehicle struck a 55-year-old pedestrian in Palm Springs.
The SUV was the second of two that hit Michael Rall in the southbound lanes of North Gene Autry Trail, north of Via Escuela, about 9:20 p.m. Sunday. The first vehicle that struck Rall, a sedan, stopped and the driver cooperated with officers, Palm Springs police Sgt. Harvey Reed said.
Rall was declared dead at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs about 45 minutes afterward, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Office.
The car that stopped is "believed to have caused the fatal injuries," and neither speed nor alcohol consumption appeared to be factors in the crash, Reed said.
The driver of the SUV that left the area is being sought as a possible witness, he said.
Anyone with more information was asked to call Palm Springs police at (760) 323-8105.
