Police: San Jacinto Man Steals Credit Card, Goes on Shopping Spree

Daniel Briggs is accused of stealing a credit card from someone's car, then using it to buy hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise.

A San Jacinto man was to be arraigned Wednesday on several felony charges of burglary and credit card theft, according to jail records.

Daniel Mark Briggs, 29, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, fraudulently using a credit card and receiving stolen property about 8:40 p.m. Sunday, sheriff's Sgt. Michelle Larson said.

Since then, Briggs has been jailed in Banning on five felony counts of burglary, five felony counts of credit card theft and one felony count of receiving stolen property, according to jail records.

The card allegedly used in the crimes was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 800 block of Yorkshire Lane about 2 p.m. the same day Briggs was arrested.

"The victim's (debit) card was used at several local businesses in a matter of hours to obtain hundreds of dollars in merchandise," Larson said.

Deputies recovered video of Briggs using the stolen card, she said. He was jailed in the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail.
