Police Identify Man Found Dead in Banning Flood Channel 4 Weeks Ago

Kenneth Chavez Jr., 20, of Banning, was found deceased Oct. 5 in a drainage ditch in the 600 block of West Lincoln Street, police said.

Police have identified a man found dead Oct. 5 in a flood control channel in the 600 block of West Lincoln Street in Banning.

Investigators were waiting for toxicology results to determine the cause of death for Kenneth Chavez Jr. , 20, said Banning police Sgt. Alex Diaz. There was no outward sign of injury, Diaz said.

Chavez was a resident of Banning, Diaz said.

Discovery of the man's body was reported to police at 12:03 p.m. four weeks ago today, police said.

It was not clear how long the body had been there, but the remains were decomposed to a degree, Banning Police Chief Leonard Purvis said.
