Police, Family Seek Info in Shooting Death of Hemet Man, 77

Police in Hemet were seeking more info Tuesday about the fatal shooting of a 77-year-old man on Saturday.

Dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call about the shooting at 9:13 p.m. Nov. 16, and officers responded to the 2800 block of West Fruitvale Avenue, Hemet police Lt. Eric Dickson said in a statement.

They found the man on the ground in a garage, Dickson said. He had a single gunshot wound and he was rushed to Hemet Valley Medical Center where he succumbed to his injury.

Victor Prinque was unloading groceries when he was shot, his nephew Ruben Gonzalez told CBS2 News. Prinque's wife, who was nearby when the shooting occurred, suffered a minor heart attack and she was recuperating.

Police said the motive for the shooting was unclear but it may have occurred during an attempted robbery or theft.

Anyone with more info was urged to call Hemet police at (951) 765-2400. Anonymous tipsters can call (866) 640-8477.
