Police: Citizen Spots Missing Beaumont Girl, Helps Reunite Her with Family

Police say a person who had heard ongoing search operations for the girl spotted her and called authorities.

A Beaumont girl was home safe with her family Monday, after having been the center of a weekend search operation.

Beaumont Police Chief Frank Coe tells Banning-Beaumont Patch that the 10-year-old was reunited Sunday night with her mother— of being reported missing.

The girl, who apparently argued with her mother before leaving her home Sunday around 4:30 p.m., was found about a mile away from her house—thanks to a thorough police response and a concerned citizen.

“We were pulling out all the stops,” Chief Coe said.  “We were prepared to go to phase two,” just as the girl was found.

In addition to a sheriff’s helicopter search, officers were getting ready to canvass the neighborhoods and go door-to-door with the assistance of a bloodhound, Coe said.

“We knew she was mad and [we] needed to find her,” he said, adding that there was a medical condition that heightened the police department’s concern.

Coe says the girl walked from her home near the Oak Valley Golf Club, on the north side of Interstate 10, all the way to Desert Lawn Drive on the south side of the freeway.

A person—who had heard announcements from the search helicopter—was driving along Desert Lawn around 6 p.m. and spotted the girl.  They called police, who were able to reunite her with her mother.

The girl was unharmed and home by 6:30 p.m.
