Police: Beaumont Crash Being Investigated as Possible DUI

The driver of a sedan that slammed into a truck in Beaumont on Wednesday afternoon may have been intoxicated, according to police.

The person behind the wheel of a sedan that struck a truck in Beaumont may have been drunk, according to new information from police.

According to a press release from the Beaumont Police Department, just before the crash, "...at approximately 12:13 p.m., the Beaumont Police Department received a report of a possible intoxicated driver in a white car in the area Sixth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue."

Officers began searching the area immediately, and soon got another report with a matching vehicle description— this one, involving a crash just east of the original intersection at Sixth Street and Xenia, according to Beaumont Police Spokeswoman Darci Mulvihill.

"Officers arrived within minutes and determined that a white Mazda car had been traveling eastbound on Sixth Street, failed to stop at the intersection, and subsequently collided with a white Ford truck traveling northbound on Xenia Avenue," Mulviihill said.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital.  Fire officials reported that one of them was in critical condition.

No arrests have been made in the crash, but police are investigating the case and asked that anyone who witnessed the accident contact the agency's on-duty Watch Commander at (951) 769-8500.
