PATCH EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Banning Bench Suspect Surrenders, Locked Up at Smith Correctional

Reported by Patch editors Renee Schiavone and Guy McCarthy

A suspect who was wanted on a felony parole violation and allegedly holed up Wednesday in a house on Banning Bench has been identified, and Patch has obtained photos of the man being taken into custody.

Rodney K. Nottingham, 37, was arrested at 4:47 p.m. Sept. 25 at 43483 Mesa Street, ending a stand-off that lasted more than four hours and prompted deputies to respond in full tactical gear with armored vehicles, an armored Bobcat-type tractor, and a helicopter.

The standoff began before noon Wednesday at the property where Nottingham lives, south the of the junction at Mesa and Gilman. No shots were fired when Nottingham surrendered, Deputy Julio Oseguera of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.

Nottingham was held without bail Thursday afternoon at Smith Correctional in Banning. He was booked early Sept. 26 on suspicion of possessing a firearm, misdemeanor DUI, and a felony violation of state parole.

Lt. Pete Ortiz of the sheriff's Cabazon Station said Thursday the warrant hold he had for Nottingham did not specify what Nottingham was on parole for, and he declined to release a copy of the warrant.

However, Riverside County superior court records indicate Nottingham had run-ins with the law dating back to 2001.

In 2004, he was found guilty of felony vehicle theft and in 2005 he was found guilty of a felony charge of falsely impersonating another.

He pleaded guilty to an April 2012 misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest/obstructing justice, for which he was sentence to three years probation, which expires in 2015, records indicate.

His most recent case involves a charge of again driving on a suspended license on May 14 this year, according to court records. A bench warrant was issued for Nottingham's arrest on July 29 when he apparently failed to show for a court date.
