Paraglider Rescued by Helicopter Crew

A downed paraglider was rescued Saturday by a Cal Fire helicopter crew in the Box Springs Mountain area north of the 60 Freeway, according to Cal Fire.

Firefighters responded to a reported paraglider down at 1:53 p.m. Jan. 4, Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

Two engine companies were on scene and the crew of Helicopter 301 "performed a hoist rescue and transported the adult female to an area hospital," Hendrickson said. "The patient condition is unknown at this time."

Cal Fire 301 is a converted UH-1 Huey that can fight fires, carry personnel and assist on rescues.

Box Springs Mountain is estimated 3,080 feet elevation, and it's the highest point in the Box Springs range north of Moreno Valley and east of Riverside.
