NAVY YARD SHOOTINGS: Feds Release Photos, Flier Seeking Info on Suspected Gunman Aaron Alexis

The FBI has released photos and a wanted poster seeking information about Aaron Alexis, 34, the deceased, suspected gunman in the multi-fatality Navy Yard shootings Monday morning in the Nation's Capital.

As of 2 p.m. Pacific Time Sept. 16, at least 13 people were dead and others were wounded in the shootings, which occurred in Southeast Washington, D.C., near Capitol Hill, the Supreme Court and the House and Senate buildings, the Washington Post reported.


Alexis, believed to last reside in Fort Worth, Texas, is among the dead, law enforcement and federal officials told reporters in D.C. Hours after the shootings, first reported at 8:20 a.m. Eastern Time, it remained unclear whether Alexis acted alone, the Washington Post reported.

Alexis was armed with an assault rifle or a shotgun and a handgun, law enforcement officials told reporters.

Aaron Alexis, deceased, is believed to be responsible for the shootings at the Washington Navy Yard in the Southeast area of Washington, D.C., around 8:20 a.m. on September 16, 2013. The FBI is asking for the public’s assistance with any information regarding Alexis.

Navy officials have released a service record for Alexis, who was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police, the New York Times reports.

According to the Navy, Alexis enlisted May 5, 2007, completed basic training in Great Lakes, Illinois, from May to July that year, and he underwent various professional trainings until September 2007.

Alexis was a full-time Navy reservist based in Texas when he left the service on Jan. 31, 2011, having earned the rank of aviation electrician's mate third class, according to the Navy.

He served primarily in Fort Worth, and he was assigned to Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 46 from February 2008 to January 2011. He was previously assigned for a month to the Fleet Logistics Support Wing.
