UPDATE: Motorist Injured in Vehicle vs Pole Crash at Sanderson and Ramona

A motorist sustained major injuries in a vehicle versus pole crash Saturday at Sanderson and Ramona Expressway in San Jacinto, and southbound traffic was expected to be delayed "several hours while Edison mitigates the power pole and downed power lines issue," a Cal Fire spokeswoman said.

The crash was reported at 4:50 p.m. Jan. 4 at North Sanderson, also known as SR 79, and Ramona Expressway, Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

Three engine crews responded and the first firefighters on scene reported "a solo vehicle vs. pole traffic collision with entrapment," Hendrickson said.

"The male patient was extricated at approximately 5:17 p.m. and will be transported to an area hospital via ground ambulance with major injuries," Hendrickson said. "Southbound Ramona will be closed for several hours while Edison mitigates the power pole and downed power lines issue."

"Southbound Sanderson from Ramona Expressway will be closed," Hendrickson said in an update after 6 p.m.

Agencies that responded included American Medical Response, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and Southern California Edison.
