A 72-year-old Beaumont man died Wednesday in a two in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 60 west of Beaumont, where the crash scene, investigation and cleanup resulted in temporary lane closures Wednesday morning, according to Cal Fire and the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 8:53 a.m. Aug. 7 on the eastbound 60 at Western Knolls.

According to CHP Officer Darren Meyer, the man was trying to cross the freeway via Western Knolls when he was stuck by a truck.

"The victim was driving a silver 1999 Toyota Camry southbound on Western Knolls attempting to cross SR-60," Meyer said.  "...A resident of Whittier was driving a grey 2006 GMC truck westbound on SR-60 approaching Western Knolls.  The victim driver pulled out  from the stop sign, directly in the path of the GMC."

The Beaumont man died at the scene and driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with major injuries, according to Meyer.

"No other vehicles were involved in the collision," he said.  "Alcohol and/or drugs have not been ruled out as a contributing factor in the collision."

A closure of one eastbound lane was set up just east of Jackrabbit Trail before 9:35 a.m. and all lanes were reported open before 10:30 a.m., according to CHP.

Agencies who responded included American Medical Response and the Coroner's Office, Annas said. The CHP was investigating the crash.
