Man Who Leaped from 60 Freeway Overpass in MoVal ID'd by Coroner

Jayvonte E. Turner, 29, of Moreno Valley, jumped from a freeway overpass and was struck by an unknown vehicle or vehicles, according to the Riverside County coroner.

A man who jumped from an overpass into traffic on the westbound 60 Freeway in Moreno Valley has been identified by the coroner.

Jayvonte E. Turner, 29, of Moreno Valley, jumped from the overpass at Indian Avenue about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday and was struck by an unknown vehicle or vehicles, according to the Riverside County coroner.

The resulting death investigation prompted closure of two lanes on the westbound 60 for about two hours, slowing motorists coming through the Badlands from Beaumont.

"Witnesses reported seeing a male adult intentionally leap from the bridge onto the freeway approximately twenty feet below," Moreno Valley police Sgt. E. Briddick said in a statement.

"The investigation revealed that after the male leapt from the bridge, he was struck by at least one vehicle," Briddick said. "However, no vehicles involved in the incident stopped after the collision."

Officers from the California Highway Patrol are conducting an investigation into a possible hit and run collision, Briddick said.

Moreno Valley police and the Riverside County coroner, which are both part of the Sheriff's Department, are investigating the incident as a suicide.
