Man Stabbed on E. Nicolet in Banning + Hospitalized, Suspect Arrested + Jailed

The stabbing was reported at 1:07 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of East Nicolet Street, police said. A 38-year-old Banning man was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, police said.

A man was stabbed Tuesday on East Nicolet Street in Banning and hospitalized, and a suspect was arrested and locked up at Smith Correctional, police said Wednesday.

The stabbing was reported at 1:07 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of East Nicolet, Banning police said in a statement.

The victim of the alleged assault, a 38-year-old Banning man, was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, police said.

Police interviewed witnesses and identified Jarvis Bell, 28, of Banning, as a possible suspect, police said. They found Bell a short time later "hiding behind a home located at 278 N. Cherry Street," police said.

"Bell attempted to evade capture by running through the back yard of the residence," police said. "However, Bell was subdued and taken into custody uninjured. Additionally it was learned that Bell is on parole."

Bell was taken to Banning police headquarters and then to Smith Correctional Facility, where he was booked Tuesday evening on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and violating parole, police said.

Bell was held Wednesday evening without bail, according to inmate records. He had a court date scheduled Thursday morning in Banning.
