Man Hospitalized in Shooting Outside Banning's Fox Theatre

Police said they're looking for more witnesses in the shooting.

A 21-year-old Banning man was hospitalized following a shooting outside Banning's movie theater— just a block from the local police station, Patch has learned.

According to Interim Police Chief Alex Diaz, the shooting was reported at backside of the Fox Theatre around 10:10 p.m. Sunday by "numerous" people who heard shots being fired.

"The victim, a 21-year-old Hispanic male who resides in the city, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to a local hospital," Diaz reported in a press release issued Monday evening.

According to Diaz, the victim was not cooperative in providing any information as to who shot him.  However, he said the case is not currently being investigated as a gang-related incident.

"There was one witness to the shooting who described the shooter as a Black male adult," Diaz said.  "The witness could not provide any motive behind the shooting."

As of Monday evening, detectives were following up on some leads in the case, but asked that anyone who may have information in this case contact Banning police at (951) 922-3175.
