Man Grabs Cash Drawer at Palm Springs Burger Joint

Kirby Asher allegedly walked into the restaurant around lunchtime and ran off with the cash register drawer but was caught soon after, police said.

A 50-year-old Palm Springs man was in custody Saturday after allegedly grabbing a cash drawer and running out of a fast-food restaurant, police said.

Kirby Asher was booked into the county jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary but bail information was not immediately available Saturday evening.

Asher reportedly walked into a Carl's Jr. restaurant at 2520 N. Palm Canyon Drive and going behind the cash register, took a drawer and ran out, according to Palm Springs police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff.

Officers were on scene within moments of the call and found the suspect at a nearby location, the sergeant wrote in a news release.

Asher was arrested without incident, Kovaleff reported.

The heist did not meet the physical elements of a robbery, the sergeant said; the suspect did not grab the drawer from anyone.

The cash and the drawer were returned to the restaurant, the sergeant said.

Have it your way, Kirby!

He took the whole drawer? It must have impeded his escape, LOL. Stupid. So, since it wasn't a robbery, will he just get a slap on the wrist? Probably, and then he'll be "smarter" next time. There will be a next time.

listen up people, you guys are all leaving dumbass comments. 1st off you guys don't know the man so do not call him anything outside his name. 2nd you don't know his situation so you have no right to even comment on his actions. 3rd I don't think his family would appreciate this rudeness, so lay off him and stop putting your negative feedback on him that his family will have to clean up
Washy December 17, 2012 at 02:48 AM
Are you seriously threatening us? We can call him a dumbass or moron or piss poor criminal if we want! This is the COMMENTS section not the threaten to kill the people who are commenting section So stupidity runs in the family/friends line?
Mariana Zuelsdorf December 17, 2012 at 06:16 AM
@Tase' Islas, his family is going to have to clean up after him one way or another. It was a pretty stupid thing to do. Maybe he thought no one would notice the cash drawer. But to be fair, that was an act of total desperation

1. im not threatening anyone. 2. it is fair to think he is dumb, but you don't know the situation. I actually know the situation, and it wasn't a matter of being caught or not. I go through a similar situation many times with my uncle, and I would hate it if people were talking mess on him when they don't even know him or his situation.

1 more thing: @ Washy, I think you need to go back to school because I never once threatened you or anyone else. So I think you need to learn to read clearly. What I did was stick up for people that I love, and if you couldn't see that then obviously stupidity runs in your family and you need to continue with you studies to be a better/ wiser person. @Mariana Zuelsdorf, I appreciate how you feel, and I'm glad you didn't say anything rude to my comment. So let me ask you a question, with that killing at that school, what would you call that man? a dumbass or psychotic?
Mariana Zuelsdorf December 17, 2012 at 08:16 PM
I would call him psychotic. While I completely understand why you are supporting your loved one, you also need to understand how the situation looks to those reading the article. Not knowing Mr Asher or his situation, the idea that someone would steal a cash drawer seems incredibly stupid. I don't call people dumbass
