A 50-year-old Palm Springs man was in custody Saturday after allegedly grabbing a cash drawer and running out of a fast-food restaurant, police said.
Kirby Asher was booked into the county jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary but bail information was not immediately available Saturday evening.
Asher reportedly walked into a Carl's Jr. restaurant at 2520 N. Palm Canyon Drive and going behind the cash register, took a drawer and ran out, according to Palm Springs police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff.
Officers were on scene within moments of the call and found the suspect at a nearby location, the sergeant wrote in a news release.
Asher was arrested without incident, Kovaleff reported.
The heist did not meet the physical elements of a robbery, the sergeant said; the suspect did not grab the drawer from anyone.
The cash and the drawer were returned to the restaurant, the sergeant said.
