Man Found Deceased in California Aqueduct Near Hesperia

A man was found deceased Sunday morning in the California Aqueduct at the Antelope Siphon near Hesperia, according to the San Bernardino County coroner.

The man's body was discovered at 8:43 a.m. Jan. 5, coroner's personnel reported.

An autopsy  was scheduled to determine the cause of the man's death. The identity of the man was withheld pending positive identification and family notification.

A bicyclist riding the banks of the aqueduct spotted the body Sunday, Hesperia station Sgt. Doug Hubbard told the Victorville Daily Press.

A sheriff's dive team responded to recover the body and coroner officials were called out.

The finding was about two miles south of where Ruben Albert Hubacek, 47, of Victorville, crashed his SUV into the aqueduct near Ranchero Road and 11th Avenue on Dec. 23, the Daily Press reported.

Searches of the aqueduct and surrounding area had been unsuccessful.
