A Redlands man was fatally injured in a motorcycle crash Sunday in the San Bernardino Mountains on State Route 38, according to the coroner.

Alan Escher, 55, of Redlands, was riding a 2007 BMW south on the 38 at high speed when he lost control and struck the mountainside next to the road, coroner's personnel said in a statement.

A passerby found Escher down and unresponsive at 6:28 a.m. June 21, according to the coroner. There were no witnesses to the single-vehicle crash.

Escher was pronounced dead at the scene, which was described as the 38 at mile marker 15.40.

The California Highway Patrol was investigating.
