Man Beats Unconscious Clerk With 40-Ounce Brew

The incident in the 1400 block of South San Jacinto Avenue was reported about 2:20 a.m., according to a news release written by Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Sargent.

A man who went into a 7-Eleven store to steal a 40-ounce beer beat a clerk with the bottle Sunday in San Jacinto, officials said.

The incident in the 1400 block of South San Jacinto Avenue was reported about 2:20 a.m., according to a news release written by Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Sargent.

According to the sergeant, the suspect left with the beer and was followed by the clerk, who tried to stop him, Sargent wrote.

The clerk reached for the suspect but fell and knocked himself unconscious, the sergeant said. The suspect ran off but then returned and struck the clerk with the bottle.

According to Sargent, the suspect then punched the unconscious clerk repeatedly before running off again.

The clerk suffered multiple injuries and was taken to a hospital, where a condition report was not immediately available.

Investigators could not find the suspect and the investigation was continuing.

Anyone with information was asked to call investigators at 951-654-2702.

Better outlaw high capacity beer bottles to hold only 10 oz.

Why do we need 40 oz containers? Who drinks that much? Those containers are used only for the random acts of violence to our city. Silly isn't it.

How can you two be so off-hand about this? A totally senseless and unwarranted act of violence! Is society so conditioned to violence that it no longer affects anyone? I hope the clerk recovers completely.

I hope the clerk recovers... But really why did the clerk leave the store to follow him? Who was watching the store?? Also a 40 oz is not worth risking your life. Choose your battles wisely.

While I agree that the clerk was stupid to follow him (nothing in a 7-eleven is worth your life), this dude needs to be caught and hanged. He got his beer and got away! What could possibly cause him to return to an unconscious clerk and beat him? This is one sick individual that needs to be removed from society permanently. Hopefully, he is found and charged with attempted murder. Scum.

Gary, you are so right. And while he is hanging, he needs to be beat with a beer bottle. Actually, just shove the beer bottle down his throat.

Who knows why the clerk chased him....fury, frustration, or the idea that anyone would be that desperate for a beer! Too many unknowns in this article. Witnesses? Condition of the clerk? Who found him? Patch, could we have an update please?

The clerk is my uncle. he is still in the hospital, went through a long neurosurgery. He is still unconcious due to the sedatives, we are waiting to see what are the side effects of the massive brain injury. he has multiple franctures on his face and scull. he probably wont be able to recover for another year or so, not considering the brain damage at this point.

I'm so very sorry, but am grateful for the update. Such a horrid thing. Many prayers for his total recovery, and for his family's strength
