Man Arrested in West King Street Stabbing

The stabbing occurred late Sunday and a man was hospitalized. Police arrested Kevin Timothy West of Banning on Monday.

A man stabbed another man in the chest late Sunday on West King Street, police said Tuesday.

The wounded man was recovering and the alleged attacker was behind bars at Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility, according to police and inmate records.

The stabbing was reported about 11:25 p.m. Sunday at 69 W. King St., police said in a statement.

Police found ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Terry Bayer, 57, of Banning, lying outside the home in the rear of the property, with a stab wound to the upper left chest area.

Paramedics responded and took Bayer to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

Police identified the suspect as Kevin Timothy West, 30, of Banning, and determined he fled the area before officers arrived.

About 6:40 p.m. Monday, police learned West had returned to 69 W. King St. Officers responded to the home, located West inside, and took him into custody.

 West was booked Monday evening at Smith Correctional Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. His bail Tuesday was listed as $25,000.
