Interstate 10 Briefly Closed After Pedestrian is Hit by Car in Banning

Three of the four eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 were temporarily closed in Banning Friday night, as emergency crews investigated a deadly collision in the area.

According to the California Highway Patrol and Riverside County Fire Department, a person was walking along the eastbound lanes of the Interstate near Hargrave for unknown reasons when they were hit around 6:30 p.m.

CHP said a Sig Alert was issued, as the three left-most lanes were closed for investigation.  Traffic was only being allowed via the number four, or slow, lane for a few hours following the collision.

The person who was struck died at the scene, according to Melody Hendrickson of the Riverside County Fire Department.
