Indio CHP Urge Designated Drivers for New Year's, Plan Extra Staffing

California Highway Patrol personnel in Indio are urging New Year's revelers to appoint designated drivers and they are planning to have four extra officers on patrol, a CHP spokesman said Monday.

"New Year,s Eve is tomorrow night, and the Indio CHP wants all motorists to have a safe holiday," Officer Mike Radford of the Indio CHP said Monday Dec. 30.

"Holidays bring celebrations, which can also bring an increase in those drivers choosing to drink and drive, a decision which endangers themselves, their passengers and those sharing the road with them," Radford said.

"Officers will be out in force and aggressively enforcing all traffic laws," Radford said. "We want to remind drivers to obey all traffic laws, stay off their cell phones, and if you plan on drinking - designate a sober driver or take a taxi."
