Incident on Westbound 60 Freeway in Moreno Valley was Suicide: CHP

The reported jumper landed in westbound lanes in Moreno Valley and he was struck by a vehicle, prompting closure of two lanes of the freeway Tuesday morning.

A man jumped from an overcrossing and was struck by a vehicle on the westbound 60 Freeway in Moreno Valley on Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP began receiving witness reports about 9:13 a.m. of a person that jumped from the overcrossing just west of Indian Avenue, Officer Sylvia Vargas of the CHP's Riverside office said in a statement.

"Emergency personnel arrived on scene and found a male adult deceased within the lanes of traffic," Vargas said.

The man was apparently struck by a vehicle in the westbound lanes, Vargas said. No vehicles were located on scene at the time of CHP arrival.

The CHP and Caltrans closed two of the 60's three westbound lanes at 10:12 a.m. and kept the HOV lane open, Vargas said. All lanes were re-opened at 11:34 a.m.

The slowed motorists coming through the Badlands from Beaumont.

"The Moreno Valley Police Department will be conducting the investigation into the suicide," Vargas said. "The California Highway Patrol, Riverside Area, will be conducting the felony hit and run collision investigation."

The man who died was not identified, Vargas said.
