Hurt Hiker Rescued Near Idyllwild

The man was attempting to hike a trial up Mt. San Jacinto when he was hurt and had to be brought down the mountain to safety Sunday night, a sheriff's sergeant said.

A man attempting to hike the difficult Marion Mountain Trail near Idyllwild had to be brought down the mountain to safety by rescue crews this weekend, a sheriff's sergeant said Monday.

Just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday night, authorities got a call that the man had been injured on the trail that leads up Mt. San Jacinto, according to Riverside Sheriff's Sergeant Robert Himmelberg.

"Members of the Riverside County Mountain Rescue Unit were called out and began a search of the area," Himmelberg said.

The hiker was found by the rescue unit, who then escorted him to safety, according to Himmelberg.

"His injuries were not life-threatening," he said, but did not further elaborate on how the man got hurt.

The Marion Mountain Trail is described as a 12-mile round-trip "strenuous" trail by localhikes.com.  The trailhead starts off of Hwy 243, just north of Idyllwild.
