UPDATE: Human Skull and Bones Discovered in Hills South of Cabazon ID'd as Resident Reported Missing in 2009

Update 3:31 p.m. Details have been released of how a Cabazon resident was reported missing in November 2009, nearly four years before his remains were discovered in the hills south of Eucalyptus Street and Ida Avenue.

Jason Timothy Swenddal was considered at risk because he was legally blind when he disappeared Nov. 5 in the area of Plum Street, according to the Sheriff's Department. Swenddal was also said to be using multiple medications, but he did not have them with him when he went missing.

Deputies responded at 1:26 p.m. Oct. 17 to a report of human skeletal remains in the area south of Eucalyptus and Ida, Sgt. James Burton said in a statement. The skull and bones were publicly identified as the remains of Swenddal on Oct. 29.

  • Last seen wearing black shirt, blue jeans, black shoes. He has an arrow tattoo on his right forearm. Last seen on 11/05/2009 by his roomate at their residence located at 15200 block of Plum Street, Cabazon. He is at-risk, due to the fact he is legally blind. Swenddal is on numerous medications, which he did not take with him.

     A human skull and other bones found Oct. 17 in the hills south of Eucalyptus Street and Ida Avenue in Cabazon have been identified as remains of a resident who was reported missing in November 2009, a sheriff's sergeant said Tuesday.

    Jason Timothy Swenddal was a 31-year-old resident of Cabazon at the time of his disappearance four years ago, Sgt. James Burton of the Cabazon Station said in a statement.

    Information about the cause of Swenddal's death was not released.

    "The investigation is ongoing and we are reaching out to the public," Burton said.
