Human Skull and Bones Discovered in Hills South of Cabazon

A human skull and other bones were found Thursday afternoon in the hills south of Eucalyptus Street and Ida Avenue in Cabazon, and investigators were seeking more information, according to the sheriff's and coroner's officials.

Someone on a hike made the initial discovery and reported it to the Sheriff's Department, Sgt. Vic Trevino of the Cabazon Station said Friday morning in a phone interview.

Deputies responded at 1:26 p.m. Oct. 17 to a report of skeletal remains in the area south of Eucalyptus and Ida, Sgt. James Burton said in a statement.

The bones appeared to be human and deputies called for coroner's personnel, Burton said.

Coroner's personnel confirmed the bones were human, and a search turned up more bones and clothing, which were recovered and collected, Burton said.

"At this point specific information regarding sex, age, and length of time the bones have been in the area is not available," Burton said in a statement.

Anyone with more info was urged to call Investigator Jones at the Cabazon Station, (951) 922-7100, Riverside County Sheriff's Dispatch, 1-800-950-2444, or email CabazonStation@RiversideSheriff.org.
