UPDATE: Injured Hiker Rescued Near Idyllwild

The Riverside County Fire Department, along with help from other agencies, worked to bring down a hurt hiker from a trail near Idyllwild.

Update 3:15 p.m.:  

Cal Fire crews have managed to carry the hiker to safety.  

They were taken to a local hospital with what were described as moderate injuries, according to Melody Hendrickson of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Rescue crews are working Saturday afternoon to bring an injured hiker down a trail to safety.

Melody Hendrickson of the Riverside County Fire Department says the hiker was on the Ernie Maxwell Trail near Idyllwild when the report came in, at around 1 p.m.

"Firefighters are hiking in with a stokes basket to rescue the hiker," Hendrickson said.

As of 2:30 p.m., the hiker still had not been brought down the trail, however rescue crews had "made contact," according to Hendrickson.

The trail is described as an intermediate-level hike through the forest leading to scenic views of Suicide Rock and Tahquitz Peak, according to Idyllwild.com.

The Riverside County Fire Department was being assisted by the Idyllwild Fire Protection District and the U.S. Forest Service.
