High Speed Chase Ends in Banning

Gabriel Panicos, 61, is being held at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning after leading CHP on a 20 mile high speed chase.

A driver was charged with a felony reckless evading after leading the CHP on a high speed chase for approximately 20 miles.

The chase took place around 4:30 a.m. Thursday on the eastbound I-10, said CHP officer Jeff Osteen. The driver - Gabriel Panicos, of Las Vegas - then exited 8th street, made his way south and started up Highway 243, where he was finally stopped.

“Prior to exiting the freeway the car reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour,” said Osteen. “He was going through stop signs without stopping.”
