Police on Friday distributed a surveillance image of a suspect they are seeking in connection with a Dec. 30 robbery at the Target on West Florida in Hemet.

The robbery was reported to police shortly after 9 p.m. Monday at the Target at 3527 W. Florida Ave., Hemet PD Sgt. Bob Nishida said in a statement.

"Loss Prevention officers were monitoring a subject who had concealed an item and had attempted to walk out of the store without paying for the item," Nishida said. "When the suspect was contacted outside by the LP officers, the suspect battered the LP officers and fled in a forest green Jeep Cherokee with a possible Arizona license plate."

The suspect was described as a white man in his mid 30s, thin build, thin mustache and goatee. He was last seen wearing a heavy green jacket, blue shirt, and blue jeans, Nishida said.

Anyone with more info about the identity and location of the suspect was urged to call the Hemet Police Department, reference report #13-11590.

The fine line between simple shoplifting and a robbery is crossed if a shoplifting suspect resists apprehension for shoplifting. Crossing over from a misdemeanor shoplifting charge to a felony robbery charge can happen as easily as colliding with a store employee or security officer as you attempt to run out the door of the store. http://losangelesdefenders.com/shoplifting-escalates-to-robbery
