Hemet Man Jailed in Banning on Drug Charges

Bruce Cleveland, 50, was booked into the Banning jail on felony drug charges after police say they found him in possession of a "large quantity" of drugs, and thousands of dollars in cash.

A 50-year-old Hemet man suspected of hauling a 'large quantity' of drugs and cash was behind bars in Banning on Tuesday, authorities said.

Bruce Cleveland was pulled over in a Datsun pickup truck around 3:40 p.m. Monday at Fifth and Santa Fe streets in San Jacinto, and deputies found "the driver was in possession of a large quantity of drugs and several thousand dollars in U.S. currency," said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Rose McKinney.

The type and quantity of drugs was not immediately reported, nor was the amount of currency with which Cleveland was found.

Jail records indicate Cleveland was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correction Facility in Banning on suspicion of drug possession, as well on charges of driving without a license.

Cleveland was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail and was due in court in Murrieta on Wednesday, according to sheriff's online jail records.
