Gas Line Ruptured in Cabazon Construction Accident

The Gas Company was working on repairs Friday, the fire department tells Banning-Beaumont Patch.

A backhoe operator working at a Cabazon construction site inadvertently ruptured a gas line Friday afternoon, fire officials reported.

The accident happened around noon, and caused gas to leak from an 8-inch line in a field in the 14200 block of Almond Street, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.

Firefighters were sent to the scene until the gas company could cap the leak, she said.

By 4 p.m., firefighters had left the scene as the Gas Company took over, officials tell Patch.  The Gas Company said only one customer suffered an outage as a result of the damage.

No one needed to be evacuated from the area, as the line is located in an open field.  No structures were threatened, Hagemann said.
