Former Banning PD Chief Purvis Rehired by Riverside County Sheriff's Department

Former Banning police Chief Leonard Purvis has been re-hired by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Sheriff Stan Sniff announced Wednesday afternoon on Facebook.

Purvis went on voluntary paid leave Oct. 5, after he filed a $250,000 claim against the City of Banning in July, alleging a "culture of retaliation" against him.

"Sergeant Leonard Purvis returned to the Riverside County Sheriff's Dept today, having served from 1990 to 2005 with us, the last 5+ years as a Sheriff's Sergeant," Sniff said on Facebook. "Leonard came to us originally in 1990 from LASD."

Command responsibilities for the Banning Police Department are currently handled by Lt. Phil Holder and Lt. Mike West, according to city spokesman Bill Manis.
