Five Arrested, Including a Felon with Loaded Mini-Gun, in Aug. 20 Checkpoint in Banning

The checkpoint was staged between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Aug. 20 in the 6100 block of West Ramsey Street, said Banning police Lt. Phil Holder.

Five people were arrested, included a convicted felon with a firearm, and another person on suspicion of driving under the influence, during a checkpoint Saturday targeting impaired and unlicensed drivers in Banning.

The checkpoint was staged between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Aug. 20 in the 6100 block of West Ramsey Street, said Banning police Lt. Phil Holder.

Police wrote nine citations, including five for suspended licenses and two for unlicensed drivers, and towed seven vehicles, Holder said.

There was one DUI arrest and three misdemeanor arrests, Holder said.

The felony arrest involved Victor Andrade, 46, of Perris, Holder said. Andrade allegedly was in possession of a loaded mini-handgun while officers working the DUI checkpoint were checking his drivers license status, Holder said.

Andrade was taken into custody without incident. 

 Another checkpoint targeting impaired drivers is scheduled between 6 p.m. and midnight, Saturday, Sept. 3, Holder said.
