UPDATE: Fire Scorches Est. 30 Acres in the San Jacinto Mtns South of Banning

Update 5:39 a.m. A wildfire scorched about 30 acres Friday night and early Saturday in the San Jacinto Mountains south of Banning, Cal Fire reported.

The fire's forward rate of spread was halted, and the fire was considered 65 percent contained, Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in an update just before 4 a.m. Sept. 15.

The blaze was reported as a wildland fire at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 near Old Banning Idyllwild Road and Euky Duct Truck Trail, Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

The fire was initially reported at 5 to 10 acres with a slow rate of spread.

It was still warm as darkness fell, around 89 degrees with 12 percent relative humidity, and east-northeast winds of 12 miles per hour gusting to 24 mph, Hendrickson said.

Before 10 p.m. the fire was reported at 20 acres and it was said to be 25 percent contained.

"Firefighters will be committed for several hours. No structures threatened, no injuries reported to firefighters or civilians," Hendrickson said in an update.

The cause of the fire was not immediately apparent. There were 17 engine crews assigned at one point.

Agencies that responded included Banning police, Bureau of Land Mangement, Pechanga Fire, San Bernardino County Fire, the Forest Service, Riverside County sheriff's deputies and Cal Fire units from Riverside and San Diego counties, Hendrickson said.
