Fire Scorches 8 to 10 Acres on Slopes South of Banning

Four aircraft and more than 80 firefighters responded to the blaze in the area of Old Banning-Idyllwild Road and Longhorn Road. It was first reported at 3:15 p.m. and declared contained at 6:50 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

A brush fire on steep ground scorched 8 to 10 acres Saturday afternoon in the area of Old Banning-Idyllwild Road and Longhorn Road, Cal Fire officials said.

Four aircraft and more than 80 firefighters responded to the blaze, which was first reported at 3:15 p.m., said Cal Fire-Riverside County spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

By 4:25 p.m., most forward spread of the fire was stopped and Cal Fire declared it contained at 6:50 p.m., Hagemann said.

By 8 p.m. there were still personnel assigned to the fire and some crews expected to remain at the scene after dark Saturday, Hagemann said.

No structures were threatened, no evacuations were called for, and no injuries were reported, Hagemann said.

Aircraft that responded included two tanker planes, one helicopter, and an air attack lead plane, Hagemann said. Personnel were from agencies including Cal Fire-Riverside County, the San Bernardino National Forest and the Angeles National Forest, Hagemann said.
