UPDATE: Night Fire on Mountainside South of Banning Grows to 50 Acres

By 9:30 p.m. there were more than 230 personnel assigned, from agencies including Cal Fire-San Bernardino, BLM, Morongo Fire, Murrieta Fire, Pechanga Fire, Riverside City Fire, and the Forest Service, according to Cal Fire.

Update 9:45 p.m. A fire near Old Banning Idyllwild Road and Shirleon Drive south of Banning had grown to an estimated 50 acres as of 9:30 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

The fire was reported at 6:10 p.m. Saturday Sept. 29 at approximately six acres with no structures threatened, Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

The cause of the fire was said to be under investigation.

Posted 8:35 p.m. A wildland fire in Banning Saturday night quickly scorched six acres but no injuries were reported or buildings threatened, Cal Fire officials said.

The fire -- burning uphill in rugged steep terrain -- was reported shortly after 6 p.m. on Old Banning Idyllwild Road, near Shirleon Drive.

Some 234 firefighters were on scene at the blaze, Cal Fire officials reported.
