Fire Damages Roof of Home on Morongo Reservation

A fire broke out outside a home after dark Monday on the Morongo Indian Reservation and engine crews from Banning assisted tribal firefighters to contain the fire to the roof, according to Cal Fire.

The fire was reported at 6:54 p.m. Dec. 9 in the 47500 block of Verdugo Road, east of Hathaway Canyon Road and north of Interstate 10, Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

Cal Fire personnel "responded to smoke and fire showing from the exterior of a single story, single family dwelling," Hendrickson said. "The Incident Commander reported the fire was knocked down at approximately 7:07 p.m. and was contained to the exterior of the roof with no extension to the interior."

No injuries were reported. Agencies that responded included the Morongo Fire Department and Southern California Edison.

Information about the cause of the fire was not released by Morongo Fire or Cal Fire.
