Fire Crews, Aircraft Help Contain Blaze South of Hemet to Nine Acres

A contingent of more than 60 firefighters assisted by two air tanker crews and a helicopter crew contained a fire that broke out Wednesday south of Hemet to nine acres, according to Cal Fire.

The fire was reported at 12:55 p.m. Sept 4. near Cactus Valley Road and Greico Way, east of Diamond Valley Gold Club, according to Mark Annas of Cal Fire-Riverside County.


The blaze was described as a wildland fire burning in grass and medium brush.

Eight engine companies with 61 firefighters responded and crews on the ground worked with pilots to contain the fire just before 2 p.m., Annas said.

Firefighters were expected to remain on-scene until about 4 p.m. for mop-up, Annas said. There were no injuries reported.

Agencies that responded included the City of Hemet Fire Department and Southern California Edison.

No information was disclosed by Cal Fire about the cause of the blaze.
