Fire Burns 100 Acres South of Lake Hemet, Mountain Fire Burn Area

A fire that started Saturday afternoon south of Lake Hemet had scorched an estimated 100 acres in the San Jacinto Mountains and it was considered 50 percent contained Monday, according to the Forest Service.

The Little Fire was reported just after 3 p.m. Aug. 24 in chapparal and scattered timber near Thomas Mountain, incident commanders said. It was not beleived a threat to any homes or structures.

There were more than 290 personnel assigned to the fire as of Monday morning. The cause of the fire was being investigated.

Thomas Mountain Road 6S13 has been closed between Highway 74 and the junction with Rouse Ridge 5S15. Rouse Ridge Road, Cottonwood Truck Trail, and Thomas Mountain Road road off of Hop Patch Springs remain open.
