The cause of a Beaumont fire was under investigation Sunday, but fire crews say the damage could have been much worse had it not been for a home sprinkler system.
Flames scorched the bedroom of the home Friday evening, but in- house sprinklers helped extinguish the fire and the residents were safely evacuated, a fire spokeswoman said.
Firefighters responded to a call Friday at 5:25 p.m. of a fire at a home in the 38400 block of Mulligan Drive, near Oak Valley Parkway and Desert Lawn Drive, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.
"A working sprinkler system inside the home was instrumental in keeping the fire confined to the bedroom and from spreading throughout the home," Hagemann said.
No one was hurt or displaced because of the blaze that caused an estimated $1,500 damage.
