Woman Accused of Trying to Cut Off Husband's Penis Faces Felony Charges

A Palm Springs woman who allegedly tried to cut off her husband's penis with a pair of scissors now faces two felony charges stemming from the Dec. 3 attack.

Virginia Valdez, 69, was charged Wednesday with inflicting corporal injury on a spouse and assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office.

The 5-foot-4-inch, 145-pound woman's next court appearance is scheduled Jan. 31 in Indio.

Valdez was arrested on suspicion of mayhem, spousal abuse and assault with a deadly weapon, according to Palm Springs police.

About 5:45 p.m. , officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Rochelle Road, Palm Springs police Sgt. Melissa Desmarais said.

"Officers made contact with a 62-year-old male victim who reported that his wife had attempted to sever his penis with scissors, resulting in injuries to the area," Desmarais said in a statement.

The man was treated at a local hospital for the non-life threatening wound, Desmarais said. He was released from the hospital. His name was not released.

A pair of scissors, which police described as a weapon, were recovered at the scene.

Valdez was taken to Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, and she posted $100,000 bail for her release on Dec. 4, according to inmate records.

Palm Springs is a desert resort city at the east end of the San Gorgonio Pass in Riverside County, east of Los Angeles and San Diego.
