Electrical Fire Breaks Out at Beaumont USD Transportation Department

Workers in the building had to be evacuated Friday, and are being temporarily relocated to a new site, school officials said.

An electrical fire broke out Friday in the office of the Beaumont Unified School District's transportation department, forcing the relocation of district employees until repairs are made.

According to the district, the fire broke out around 10:20 a.m. in the kitchen of the building on 1001 Cougar Way.

"The fire was isolated in the ceiling above the staff kitchen area of the building," an emailed statement to Banning-Beaumont Patch said.  "The employees responded to the fire by calling 911 and evacuating the building."

The department— the only one that's not immediately scheduled to relocate to the new school district building on Brookside— serves as the operational headquarters for the district's buses.

The half-dozen people who work there will now work from the former Chavez Elementary School site, officials said.

"The bus yard and mechanic building were not affected by the fire and the bus schedule for the elementary students will operate as normal," the statement said.
