60-Year-Old Driver Arrested for DUI in Palm Desert Crash

Police say the 60-year-old woman is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and slamming into another car.

A 60-year-old Cathedral City woman was arrested on suspicioun of driving drunk following a Thursday night crash in Palm Desert, sheriff's officials report.

Sergeant Patrick Carroll says Dolores Ramirez was driving a Jeep Cherokee on Highway 111 near the Westfield Mall at around 6:30 p.m. when the crash happened.

"The investigation determined a Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound on Hwy 111 approaching Town Center," Carroll said.  "The driver of the Jeep Cherokee failed to stop in time for the signaled red light, striking a stopped Honda Crossover."

No other cars were hit in the intersection.

"No injuries were sustained and it is believed that alcohol consumption was a factor in this collision," the sergeant said.

I don't see the word "elderly" in this copy...was it taken out? I am 61 and personally, I don't plan to be "elderly" until I'm past 80!

I'm 60 and I wouldn't be caught dead drinking and driving. Not even 1 beer. Ok.....MMMMaybe one beer. BUT THAT'S IT! :)

Just so you know, Gary...one beer in your system will get you a DUI in California...it registers over limit. Happened to someone I know. I know...that totally stinks...but this is one of the prices we pay for living in Paradise! :)

The original headline read "elderly" because I was under the impression the driver was 80 at first; then when I updated the age in the story, I missed the headline... sorry if I offended anyone! :)

I've been out of town, so this is Saturday. "Elderly" was removed, but if I had read it yesterday, you can bet I would chimed in!
